un Yang will perform his latest lecture, and in the process explain how he ended up creating a Chinese restaurant.
After he finished the work “Coming home - daily structures of life” (2000), a video dealing with two issues - the portrayal of Chinese restaurants in Hollywood movies, and therefore of Chinese stereotypes in the media of the 1980’s and 90’s; and his personal experience of growing up in his parents’ ‘classical’ Chinese restaurant in Austria - he asked himself several questions: How would he create a Chinese restaurant? What aesthetics and concept, without repeating these stereotypes, would he be interested in and would like to see? After pondering these questions, he and his brother founded a Chinese restaurant that went on to become one of the most successful Asian restaurants in Austria.
About Jun Yang:
Jun Yang is an artist based in Vienna, Taipei and Yokohama. His works encompass various mediums, including film, installation, performance and projects in public spaces, while addressing institutions, societies and audiences. As a result of having grown up and lived in various, different cultural contexts, in his artistic work Jun Yang examines the influence of clichés and media images on identity politics.Previous exhibitions include the Sydney Biennial, the Gwangju Biennale, the Taipei Biennial, the Liverpool Biennial, the 51st Biennale di Venezia, and Manifesta 4.
Jun Yang has always been interested in the overlapping nature and intersection of contemporary visual arts, business and politics, which are often found in many of his gastronomic and institutional projects. Within this framework, he initiated projects such as the gfzk garten, the café and the hotel Paris Syndrome, and a contemporary art center, Taipei (a proposal), Taipei Biennial 2008, which led to the founding of the Taipei Contemporary Art Center. He is also co-founder of the restaurant/bar ra’mien and the ra’mien go chain, and most recently, Café Leopold at the Leopold Museum, all in Vienna.
Jun Yang is currently working on a series of solo exhibitions/retrospectives that started at the Art Sonje Center in Seoul, moved to Kunsthaus Graz and will be shown in Taipei in 2020 and 2021.
The lecture will be held in English with Thai translation.

ในครั้งนี้จุน ยัง จะเสนอผลงานการบรรยายร่วมกับการแสดง (lecture performance) ชุดใหม่ ที่จะอธิบายถึงที่มาที่ไปว่าทำไมสุดท้ายแล้วเขาถึงเปิดร้านอาหารจีนเมื่อปีพ.ศ. 2543 จุนสร้างผลงานที่มีชื่อว่า “coming home - daily structures of life” ผลงานวิดีโอที่นำเสนอภาพเหล่าบรรดาร้านอาหารจีนในภาพยนตร์ฮอลลีวูดที่บ่งบอกถึงทัศนคติตายตัวเกี่ยวกับความเป็นจีนตามสื่อต่างๆ ในช่วงทศวรรษที่ 1980 และ 1990 รวมถึงประสบการณ์ส่วนตัวของเขากับการเติบโตขึ้นในครอบครัวร้านอาหารจีนแบบดั้งเดิมในประเทศออสเตรีย หลังจากสร้างผลงานชิ้นนี้ จุน ถามตัวเองว่า ถ้าเขาจะเปิดร้านอาหารจีน จะเป็นร้านแบบไหน สุนทรียะและแนวคิดแบบไหนที่เขาอยากเห็น ที่จะไม่เดินตามรูปแบบเดิมๆ ที่เคยเป็นมา จุน เปิดร้านอาหารจีนกับน้องชายของเขา และร้านของเขาได้กลายเป็นร้านอาหารเอเชียที่ประสบความสำเร็จมากที่สุดร้านหนึ่งในประเทศออสเตรีย
