“Wrapped in Culture. :ห่อวัฒนธรรม”โครงการห่อวัฒนธรรมเป็นการทำงานร่วมกันของศิลปินออสเตเรีย Rushdi Anwar และ Melanie Jayne Taylor ศิลปินในพำนัก Ne’-na Contemporary Art Space เชียงใหม่
ซึ่งทั้งคู่สนใจที่จะทำงานที่ร่วมกับผู้คนทั้งในท้องที่ภาคเหนือ โดยชวนผู้คนมาร่วมกันแบ่งปันเรื่องราวของวัฒนธรรมล้านนาผ่านสิ่งของ และห่อหุ้มด้วยกระดาษสา ผลงาน กว่า 80 ชิ้น พร้อมภาพถ่าย บทกวีจะนำมาจัดแสดงนิทรรศการ ณ Baan Monfai: Lanna Living Museum/Cultural Centre (บ้านม่อนฝ้าย เชียงใหม่)
นับเป็นโอกาสดีที่ชาวเชียงราย ศิลปินและนักศึกษาจะได้ร่วมพูดคุยเสวนากับศิลปินทั้งสองท่าน ถึงประสบการณ์ทำงานที่ผ่านมา ตลอดจนร่วมปฎิบัติการทางศิลปะในโครงการห่อวัฒนธรรม wrapped in culture โดยผู้ที่สนใจจะเข้าร่วมกิจกรรมการปฎิบัติ (workshop) ร่วมนำสิ่งของที่คิดว่ามีความเกี่ยวเนื่องหรือมีความเป็นล้านนา มาแบ่งปันเรื่องราวและห่อด้วยกระดาษสา

Wrapped in Culture is an innovative community art project that engages individuals across varied communities in Northern Thailand – in partnership with the Baan Monfai: Lanna Living Museum/Cultural Centre – to examine what the rich and unique Lanna Culture means to them. In a collaboration between Australian artists Rushdi Anwar and Melanie Jayne Taylor, individuals from community groups including arts organisations, schools, universities, remote rural villages, will be asked to choose an object that represents a personal connection to the Lanna Culture of Northern Thailand. Wrapped in Culture will explore the transformative effect that traditional Thai Paper (Kada Saa) will have when wrapped around these objects.
The outcome will involve over 80 unique interpretations of the Lanna Culture in the form of the wrapped objects exhibited as an installation at Baan Monfai in February 2015. An accompanying video work will be screened – a poetic documentary of the project – at Baan Monfai and in Melbourne. Photography and mixed media work created during the residency by the artists will also be exhibited.

Melanie Jayne Taylor
Melanie Jayne Taylor works with text components and installation strategies to display her extensive personal photographic archive; within these images she investigates the meanings of memory, loss, longing, and absence. Melanie completed her MFA with high distinction from RMIT University, Melbourne, Australia in 2010. She has exhibited her work extensively in Australia and internationally. Solo exhibitions include: A Way with It All at Beam Contemporary; Acts of Re-ordering at Queensland Centre for Contemporary Photography; Certain Geometries at the City of Kingston G3 Artspace, 2013; A Room for Ordering Memory at the Counihan Gallery, 2012; Cataloguing the Composite at Beam Contemporary, 2011 and Some Sort of Split at Blindside, 2011. Group exhibitions have been held at the RMIT University Design Hub; State Library of Victoria; Wallflower Photo Media Gallery, Mildura; Scope Miami, Miami Beach; Ne’na Contemporary Art Space, Chiang Mai, Thailand; Sardam Gallery, Sulaymaniyah, Kurdistan; Kings Ari, Seventh Gallery and Mailbox Art Space, Melbourne.Melanie is recipient of the Australian-Thailand Institutes Artist in Residency Program 2014-2015 and will be a studio resident at Ne’na Contemporary Art Space, Chiang Mai, Thailand and at the Werner Thoni Emerging Art Centre in Barcelona in 2015. She has been awarded funding through the Australia Council for the Arts (2011) and residencies at Mustarinda in Hyrynsalmi Finland (2012); 33 Officina Creativa in Toffia, Italy (2013) and at Seventh Gallery (2013) and Blindside ARI (2011) in Melbourne. Melanie is co-founder of The Australian Thai Artist Interchange (ATAI), a cross cultural exchange organisation. She is also part of the collectives Concrete Post and Eye Collective.
Rushdi Anwar
The work of Rushdi Anwar addresses the transitory nature of life. He manifests an understanding of change through the manipulation and juxtapositions of images and materials including: pigment, nails, rust, ash, charcoal, wood, earth, ink, paper, plaster, books, and photographs. Specifically his works reference the social and political unrest in his home country and his Kurdish heritage, but they also have a broader message and talk to us of care, attention and even redemption through art. Rushdi Anwar was born in Halabja- Kurdistan. He was educated in Kurdistan and Australia studying at the Institute of Kirkuk- Kurdistan, Enmore Design Centre / Sydney Institute- Sydney and RMIT University, Melbourne. He holds a Master of Fine Art (MFA) in Fine Arts RMIT University where he is a current candidate of Doctorate of Philosophy Art – “PhD” in the School of Art.Anwar has held solo and group exhibitions widely in Australia, Austria, Bulgaria, Canada, Finland, France, Japan, Kurdistan, Norway, Switzerland, Thailand, and United Arab Emirates.
He has been awarded grants from Australia Council for the Arts, Australia-Thailand Institute(ATI), Kurdistan Regional Government through the Ministry of Arts & Culture, Australian Postgraduate Award (APA) and residencies from Ne’-Na Contemporary Art Space, Chiang Mai- Thailand and Casula Powerhouse Art Centre, Sydney. His works are held in collections of the Australian War Memorial Contemporary Collection in Canberra, The Kurdistan Regional Government; the Ministry of Arts & Culture, Slemani- Kurdistan and in private collections in Kurdistan and Australia. Anwar has curated exhibitions for a group of international artists in Kurdistan (2010), Thailand (2012), and Australia (2013) that received widespread media coverage. He is Co- founder and Co- coordinator; The Australian Thai Artist Interchange INC (ATAI) Organization Melbourne, Australia. And also he is founder and coordinator Auskurd Art Net INC (AAN) Organization Melbourne, Australia.
