(สามารถเดินทางโดยรถไฟฟ้าลงสถานีสนามกีฬาแห่งชาติ)นิทรรศการ Missing Links เป็นนิทรรศการภาพเคลื่อนไหวโดยศิลปินจากอุษาคเนย์ เปรียบเสมือนพื้นที่ในการสืบค้นและการย้อนกลับมามองอดีตอีกครั้งถึงเรื่องราวการรับรู้ของผู้คนในระหว่างช่วงการก้าวเข้าสู่ความเป็นสมัยใหม่การพัฒนาอุตสาหกรรมการพัฒนา มาสู่สังคมเมืองรวมถึงการอพยพย้ายถิ่นฐานในพื้นที่บริเวณภูมิภาคอุษาคเนย์นี้โดยนำเสนอผ่านภาพเคลื่อนไหวจากการสร้างของศิลปินจากหลายประเทศ ที่มีความสนใจและทำงานเกี่ยวกับช่วงเวลาของการก้าวเข้าสู่ความเป็นสมัยใหม่ผ่านบริบทของตัวศิลปินทั้งที่เกิดจากแรงขับของการล่าอาณานิคม และโลกาภิวัตน์ หรือจากตัวศิลปินเองรวมถึงผลสืบเนื่องสู่ปัจจุบัน
นิทรรศการ Missing Links ภาคที่สอง: การพลัดถิ่นและอัตลักษณ์ (จัดแสดงตั้งแต่วันที่1สิงหาคม – 31 ตุลาคม) โดยนำเสนอผลงานภาพเคลื่อนไหวของศิลปินจากสี่ประเทศ (มาเลเซีย เขมร ไทย และ สิงคโปร์) ที่ทำงานเกี่ยวกับการอพยพย้ายถิ่นฐานการพลัดถิ่นของแรงงานและอัตลักษณ์ที่เกิดขึ้นในภูมิภาคอุษาคเนย์ในช่วงหลังสงครามเย็น และในยุคโลกาภิวัฒน์ ซึ่งสาเหตุส่วนใหญ่เกิดจากเหตุผลทางการเมืองและเศรษฐกิจ
ผลงานวิดีโอ Block B ของ คริส ของ ชาน ฟุย (ประเทศมาเลเซีย/แคนาดา) นำเสนอภาพชีวิตของชุมชนชาวอินเดียภายในอาคารในย่าน Brickfields ในเมืองกัวลาลัมเปอร์ ประเทศมาเลเซียได้กลายมาเป็นภาพวาดที่มีชีวิต บริเวณ Brickfields นอกจากจะเป็นจุดศูนย์รวมของการขนส่งมวลชนแล้ว ก็ยังเป็นย่านค้าประเวณี ร้านกาแฟอินเดีย วัด โบสถ์ และมัสยิด การผสมปนเปของเสียงจำนวนมาก เหมือนเป็นการจำลอง ความคิดเห็นที่แตกต่าง ทั้งในเรื่องของความซับซ้อนทางศาสนาและความไม่มั่นคงของประเทศนี้
ส่วนผลงานวิดีโอ "The storm continues to rage outside and the wind sweeps relentlessly across the land from the same direction” ของนิพันธ์ โอฬารนิเวศน์ถูกสร้างผ่านการเรียบเรียงภาพภาพเคลื่อนไหวเชิง documentaryเป็นภาพของผู้คน พื้นที่ และกิจวัตรที่เกิดขึ้นบริเวณรอยต่อระหว่างไทยกับเมียนมาร์ หรือพรมแดนฝั่งระนองกับเกาะสอง (Kawthaung) คู่ขนานไปกับเสียงพูดคุยของของตัวละครหญิงเมียนมาร์ต้นเรื่อง และคนไทย(ทหาร) คนหนึ่งที่กำลังทำหน้าที่ของตนในบริเวณพรมแดนอันเป็นทางเข้าหลักทางหนึ่งของทั้งสองประเทศ
ประวัติศิลปิน:
คริส ชอง ชาน ฟุย เป็นศิลปินสื่อและผู้กำกับภาพยนตร์ชาวมาเลเซีย เกิดที่เมืองโคตาคินาบาลู ซาบา บอร์เนียว ประเทศมาเลเซีย คริส ชอง ทำงานเป็นผู้กำกับและศิลปินทั้งในประเทศแคนาดาและมาเลเซีย เมื่อปีพ.ศ.2550 เขาก่อตั้ง "Tanjung Aru Pictures” บริษัทโปรดักชั่น ที่เน้นการทำภาพยนตร์ทดลองและภาพยนตร์สารคดี คริส ชองสนใจเรื่องของพื้นที่สีเทา และสร้างผลงานที่เชื่อมโยงความเป็นไปได้ต่างๆ เกี่ยวกับพื้นที่กึ่งกลาง (in-between spaces) โครงการของเขาเกิดขึ้นจากการสังเกตุพื้นที่ หรือโครงสร้างทางกายภาพ และนั่นเองคือสถานที่ที่เรื่องราวต่างๆเกิดขึ้นอย่างเป็นธรรมชาตินิพันธ์ โอฬารนิเวศน์
ผลงานส่วนใหญ่ของนิพันธ์ โอฬารนิเวศน์ จะมุ่งความสนใจไปที่เรื่องของความทรงจำเกี่ยวกับประวัติศาสตร์ และการเมืองระหว่างอัตลักษณ์และความเป็นชาติ โลกาภิวัตน์และการอพยพย้ายถิ่น นิพันธ์จบการศึกษาระดับปริญญาตรี ด้วยเกียรตินิยมอันดับ 1 สาขาภาพพิมพ์ จากมหาวิทยาลัยศิลปากร และได้ศึกษาต่อในระดับปริญญาโท สาขาภาพพิมพ์ จากมหาวิทยาลัย Tokyo National University of Fine Arts & Music ปัจจุบันเป็นอาจารย์ประจำภาควิชาทัศนศิลป์ คณะศิลปกรรมศาสตร์ มหาวิทยาลัยกรุงเทพนิพันธ์ได้เข้าร่วมในนิทรรศการศิลปะมากมายทั้งในประเทศไทยและต่างประเทศ อาทิเช่น Singapore Biennale 2013: If The World Changes, SAM, Singapore (2013), Setouchi Triennale 2013,Kuandu Biennale2012: Artist in Wonderland, Kuandu Museum of Art, Taipei,Taiwan (2012), The 18th Biennale of Sydney: all our relations, The Gallery of New South Wales, Sydney, Australia (2012),และ 52nd Venice Biennale, Thai Pavilion, Italy(2007) ปัจจุบันนิพันธ์อาศัยและทำงานอยู่ที่กรุงเทพกิจกรรมในครั้งนี้ไม่เสียค่าใช้จ่ายในการเข้าร่วม

The Jim Thompson Art Center presents an Artist’ Talk on Diaspora and Identity

(BTS National Stadium)This artist talk is an educational program held in conjunction with the Art Center's current Missing Links exhibition Part 2: Diaspora and Identity. The talk will be conducted in two languages (English and Thai) with a brief translation provided.
The exhibition Missing Links reveals issues of the people's sensorium during the process of modernization, industrialization, urbanization and migration in the Southeast Asian region. Missing Links is an art exhibition featuring video, moving images and time-based works by artists from the Southeast Asian region and beyond. These artists address and explore the period of modernization through their own contexts whether this occurred through colonial forces or self-determination, and its continuing consequences to the present day.
The second part of Missing Links: Diaspora and Identity (starting August 1st – October 31st) focuses on issues of migration, diaspora, labour and identity. It provides the pretext and context for the Asian Economic Community, particularly with regard to the mobility of Southeast Asians during and after the Cold War period, changes that were driven mainly by politics and economics. While the first part dealt with the pre-modern and modernization period in South East Asia, this second part looks at the globalization, which continues to affect this region and the world.
Block B, a video work by Chris Chong Chan Fui, presents a building that becomes a living painting, framing the lives of an expatriate Indian community in Malaysia in the Brickfields area of Kuala Lumpur. It is a major transportation hub, but also an area of red-light prostitution, Indian cafés, temples, churches, and mosques alike. The contradictory mélange of sounds mimics the disparate voices, which make up the country’s own religious complexities and insecurities.
“The storm continues to rage outside and the wind sweeps relentlessly across the land from the same direction" by Nipan Oranniwesna, a Thai artist based in Bangkok. Nipan is interested in the issue of migration and addresses the displacement of people in Thailand and also in the region that’s based on the rationale of economy and for a better standard of living. This project started when the artist met and talked with a Myanmar worker who’s working as a cleaner at the Bangkok Art and Culture Centre. The consequence of this conversation led him to travel to Ranong province (South of Thailand) to explore and interview people in the area, then to cross the border into Myanmar to do the same thing. The video investigates how this Myanmar maid travelled from her hometown in Maulamaing, Myanmar to the border with Thailand.
About the speakers:
Chris Chong Chan Fui is a Malaysian filmmaker and media artist. Born in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Borneo, he lives in Canada and Malaysia where he works as a director and media artist. In 2007 he founded Tanjung Aru Pictures, a production company that focuses on experimental films and documentaries. He is interested in gray areas and exploring the inherent possibilities of in-between spaces. His projects are usually formed through observing a space or physical structure, and that is where stories naturally take place.Nipan Oranniwesna
Most of Nipan Oranniwesna’s work focuses on the reconstruction of fact and fiction surrounding issues related to historical memory and the politics of identity and the nation, globalization and immigration. He graduated with a BFA (1st class hons.) in graphic arts from Silpakorn University in Bangkok and continued his studies at The Tokyo National University of Fine Arts & Music where he received his MFA in printmaking. He is currently a lecturer at the Visual Art Department, School of Fine & Applied Art at Bangkok University. Nipan has exhibited in many exhibitions both in Thailand and overseas, among them, Eagles Fly, Sheep Flock: Biographical Imprints – Artistic Practices in Southeast Asia, Southeast Asia Platform, Art Stage 2015, Singapore, Singapore Biennale 2013: If The World Changes SAM, Singapore (2013), Setouchi Triennale 2013, Fukutake House, Shodoshima, Japan (2013), Kuandu Biennale2012: Artist in Wonderland, Kuandu Museum of Art, Taipei, Taiwan (2012), The 18th Biennale of Sydney: all our relations, The Gallery of New South Wales, Sydney, Australia (2012), City-Net Asia 2011, Seoul Museum of Art, Korea (2011), Busan Biennale, Korea (2008), 52nd Venice Biennale, Thai Pavilion, Italy (2007).
