เสวนาและชมคอนเสิร์ตหมอลำ โดยเทพแห่งแคน สมบัติ สิมหล้า
หอศิลป์บ้านจิม ทอมป์สัน มีความยินดีขอเชิญทุกท่านเข้าร่วมกิจกรรมครั้งสุดท้าย ก่อนอำลานิทรรศการ แคนล่องคะนองลำ การเสวนากึ่งสาธิตทางดนตรีในหัวข้อ ลายดนตรีแคนในวัฒนธรรมหมอลำ โดยพ่อสมบัติ สิมหล้า หมอแคนตาบอดเจ้าของฉายาเทพแห่งแคน ดำเนินรายการโดยสราวุฒิ สีหาโคตร ภัณฑารักษ์รับเชิญนิทรรศการแคนล่องคะนองลำ ในวันเสาร์ที่ 28 มีนาคม 2558 เวลา 16.00-17.30น. จากนั้นขอเชิญร่วมฟังคอนเสิร์ตวงเล็กโดยพ่อสมบัติ สิมหล้าและคณะ ในเวลา 19.00-21.00น. พร้อมทั้งกิจกรรมพิเศษโดยครูเพลงรับเชิญสุรินทร์ ภาคศิริ ฉายา ทิดโส สุดสะแนน ร่วมพูดคุยเบื้องหลังงานเพลงชิ้นพิเศษ ที่แต่งขึ้นโดยเฉพาะสำหรับจิม ทอมป์สัน บทเพลงสาวไหม ซึ่งจะร้องโชว์เป็นครั้งแรกสำหรับงานนี้โดยเฉพาะ ในเวลา 18.30-19.00น.
กิจกรรมทั้งหมดจะจัดขึ้นภายในห้องนิทรรศการแคนล่องคะนองลำ ณ หอศิลป์บ้านจิม ทอมป์สัน ซอยเกษมสันต์2 ถนนพระรามที่1 แขวงปทุมวัน (สามารถเดินทางโดยรถไฟฟ้าลงสถานีสนามกีฬาแห่งชาติ)

การเสวนากึ่งสาธิตทางดนตรีครั้งนี้เป็นส่วนหนึ่งของนิทรรศการแคนล่องคะนองลำ (กิจกรรมครั้งสุดท้ายก่อนปิดนิทรรศการ) ซึ่งการเสวนาจะครอบคลุมประเด็นหลากหลายเกี่ยวกับดนตรีแคนในวัฒนธรรมหมอลำ อาทิเช่น การใช้ดนตรีแคนเพื่อประกอบการแสดงหมอลำ และลักษณะของลายแคนกับทำนองของหมอลำประเภทต่างๆ พร้อมทั้งชมการแสดงสาธิตการเป่าแคนลายต่างๆ โดยพ่อสมบัติ สิมหล้า ที่จะช่วยเสริมความเข้าใจของผู้ชม ว่าการปรับเปลี่ยนทำนองของหมอลำ ได้มีส่วนต่อพัฒนาการทางด้านดนตรีในวัฒนธรรมบันเทิงหมอลำอย่างไร
หลัง จบการเสวนากึ่งสาธิตขอเชิญชมกิจกรรมพิเศษ โดยครูเพลงสุรินทร์ ภาคศิริ ฉายาทิดโส สุดสะแนน เจ้าของงานเพลง อ.ส. รอรัก มาร่วมพูดคุยถึงเบื้องหลังการแต่งงานเพลงชิ้นล่าสุด สาวไหม บท เพลงพิเศษเพื่อมอบให้จิม ทอมป์สัน และจะร้องโชว์ให้สาธารณชนรับชมเป็นครั้งแรกที่งานนี้ จบท้ายด้วยการชมคอนเสิร์ตวงเล็กโดยพ่อสมบัติ สิมหล้าและคณะ

เกี่ยวกับผู้บรรยาย
สมบัติ สิมหล้า เจ้าของฉายา “เทพแห่งหมอแคน” เป็นลูกชาวนาอีสานแต่กำเนิด เกิดพ.ศ.2506 ที่ อำเภอบรบือ จังหวัดมหาสารคาม ตาบอดเพราะความผิดพลาดทางการรักษาของหมอตำแยในวัยเด็ก มีพ่อเป็นหมอแคน และมีแม่เป็นหมอลำกลอน จึงได้ถ่ายทอดวิชาเป่าแคนให้สมบัติตั้งแต่วัย 6 ขวบ และสามารถเป่าแคนให้กับหมอลำกลอนเมื่ออายุได้ 14 ปี โดยเป่าแคนให้หมอลำบัวผัน ดาวคะนอง, หมอลำคำพัน ฝนแสนห่า, หมอลำวิรัติ ม้าย่อง โดยได้รับค่าตอบแทนในตอนนั้นเป็นจำนวนเงิน 500 บาท จากนั้นเป็นต้นมาสมบัติ สิมหล้า ก็มีแคนเป็นเครื่องดนตรีคู่กาย และได้ยึดอาชีพหมอแคนมาจนถึงปัจจุบัน และด้วยฝีมือลายแคนระดับเทพ จึงทำให้หลายๆ คนอยากรู้จักพ่อสมัติ รวมถึงอาจารย์บรูซ แกสตัน จึงเป็นที่มาของการรับเชิญร่วมเล่นดนตรีให้กับวงดนตรีหลายๆ วง เช่น วงฟองน้ำ, หงา คาราวาน, สนธิ สมมาตร, สายันต์ สัญญาฯลฯ
สุรินทร์ ภาคศิริ หรือทิดโส สุดสะแนน เป็นหนึ่งในตำนานคนเพลงอีสาน ที่เป็นทั้งนักจัดรายการวิทยุ และเป็นครูเพลง ทิดโส สุดสะแนน มีผลงานแต่งเพลงให้กับนักร้องดังในสมัยนั้นมากมาย เริ่มจากผลงานชิ้นแรก คือ คนขี้หึง ขับร้องโดย ชื่นกมล ชลฤทัย เพลง คนขี้งอน ร้องโดย ไพรวัลย์ ลูกเพชร เพลง เมษาอาลัย ร้องโดย หมาย เมืองเพชร และเพลง เต้ยเกี้ยวสาว ขับร้องโดย กบิล เมืองอุบล ซึ่งเป็นเพลงที่สร้างชื่อด้วยแนวการร้องแบบศิลปะของหมอลำ จากนั้น ก็แต่งเพลงป้อนให้นักร้องดังๆ อีกหลายคน เช่น ศักดิ์ศรี ศรีอักษร, ไวพจน์ เพชรสุพรรณ, สนธิ สมมาตร, กาเหว่า เสียงทอง,ศรคีรี ศรีประจวบ, ศรชัย เมฆวิเชียร, เรียม ดาราน้อย, คณะ รอยัล สไปร์ท, ศักดิ์สยาม เพชรชมพู, สันติ ดวงสว่าง, เอ๋ พจนา, สายัณห์ สัญญา, ชาย เมืองสิงห์ เป็นต้น เพลงที่สร้างชื่อให้มากที่สุดคือ วอนลมฝากรัก, อ.ส.รอรัก, ทหารเกณฑ์ผลัด 2, หนาวลมที่เรณู, ทุ่งกุลาร้องให้, หอมกลิ่นดอกคำใต้, หนุ่ม น.ป.ข., ลำกล่อมทุ่ง ฯลฯ
สราวุฒิ สีหาโคตร เกิดปีพ.ศ. 2531 เติบโตที่อำเภอพล จังหวัดขอนแก่น จบการศึกษาปริญญาตรีที่วิทยาลัยดุริยางคศิลป์ มหาวิทยาลัยมหิดล จุดเริ่มต้นของการชื่นชอบดนตรีหมอลำมาจากการที่ได้ดูหมอลำผีฟ้าและหมอแคนผี ฟ้ามาลำรักษาคุณย่าที่บ้านเป็นครั้งแรก จากนั้นก็หลงรักดนตรีหมอลำมาโดยตลอด จนกระทั่งได้มีโอกาสเรียนดนตรีกับพ่อขัน เทพศิลา ซึ่งเป็นหมอพิณประจำหมู่บ้าน จนในที่สุดก็เริ่มฝึกการลำกับหมอลำวงเดือน มาเป้า และมีโอกาสรับงานแสดงดนตรีตามหมู่บ้านต่างๆ ปัจจุบันสราวุฒิจบการศึกษาระดับปริญญาโทคณะคุรุศาสตร์ จุฬาลงกรณ์มหาวิทยาลัย และเป็นอาจารย์พิเศษรับเชิญบรรยายตามสถาบันต่างๆ

The Jim Thompson Art Center is delighted to invite you to join our last event before the end of the Joyful Khaen, Joyful Dance exhibition on Saturday 28th March 2015 at 16:00 - 17:30 pm. There will be a talk and music demonstration ‘Different lai, or modes of khaen performance in the morlam culture by Sombat Simlah’, a blind khaen master known as ‘the god of khaen’, the talk will be moderated by Sarawut Sihakhot, a guest curator of the Joyful Khaen, Joyful Dance exhibition. You are also invited to join the morlam ensembles by Sombat Simlah and his band at 19:00 - 21:00 pm and a special talk by Surin Parksiri known as Tid So Sudsanaen, he will talk about the background story of ‘Saow Mai’ a song specially composed for Jim Thompson shown for the first time at 18:30 - 19:00 pm.
The events will be held at the Joyful Khaen, Joyful Dance exhibition room at the Jim Thompson Art Center, Soi Kasemsan 2, Rama 1 Rd., Pathumwan (BTS National Stadium)

This talk and music demonstration is a special program held in conjunction with the current Joyful Khaen, Joyful Dance exhibition. The talk will cover various aspects of khaen performance in morlam culture, for example the use of khaen music in morlam performance, different lai, or modes of Khaen performance and categories of morlam’s tunes, together with a demonstration of different lai, or modes of Khaen performance by Sombat Simlah to help enhance the understanding of the audience as to how the changing of morlam’s tunes effect the development of music in the morlam entertainment culture.
Following the demonstration, you are invited to a special talk by music composer, Surin Parksiri known as Tid So Sudsanaen, the composer of the song ‘Aw. Sor. Ror Rak' he will talk about the background of his latest composition, the song ‘Saow Mai’, made specially for Jim Thompson, it will be performed for the first time here and it will then finish with Morlam ensembles by Sombat Simlah and his band.

About the Speakers
Sombat Simlah a khaen master, known as the ‘god of khaen’ is the son of an Isan farming family born in 1963 in Borabue, Mahasarakham. He was blinded due to mistaken treatment from a midwife at his birth. His father is a khaen master and his mother a morlam singer and their knowledge of khaen performance has been passed on to him since he was six years old and Sombat Simlah has been able to play khaen for morlam singers since he was fourteen years old. He played khaen for the morlam singers Buapun Dao Khanong, Kumpan Fonsaenha and Virat Mayong and received payment of five hundred Baht, since then he embraced the khaen as his instrument and continues his career as a khaen master. With his outstanding talent, many people have wanted to meet him, including Bruce Gaston, this led to numerous invitations to play for many bands, such as Fong Nam, Ngar Caravan, Sonthi Sommart, Sayun Sunya etc.
Surin Parksiri known as Tid So Sudsanaen is one of the Isan music legends. He is a radio presenter and music composer. His first song was ‘Khon Keeheung’ sung by Chuenkamon Cholaruethai ‘Khon Keengon’ sung by Phraiwan Lukphet ‘Maesa Arlai’ sung by Mai Muang Phet and ‘Toeykeawsaow’ sung by Kabin Muang Ubon which is a famous song in morlam style. He then later composed songs for many more renowned singers such as Saksri Sri-akson, Waiphot Phetsuphan, Sonthi Sommart, Kawao Siengthong, Sorn Kee Ree Sri Pra Juab, Sornchai Mekwichien, Riam Daranoi, Royal Sprite, Saksiam Petchchompu, Sunti Duugsawang, Ae Pojanar, Sayun Sunya, Chai Muangsing etc. His famous songs include: Wonlom Fakrak, Aw. Sor. Ror Rak, Taharn Gaen plad 2, Naolom Tee Renu, Tungkularonghai, Homglin Dokkumtai, Num Nor.Por.Kor, Lamglomtung etc.
Sarawut Sihakoht was born in Pol, Khon Kaen in 1988. He graduated from the College of Music, Mahidol University. The starting point of his fondness for morlam came from when he saw a morlam Pee Fah, who came to his house to heal his Grandmother of her illness, after that he fell in love with morlam. He later had the chance to study with Poh Khan Thepsila who was the Mor Phin of the village, he finally started practicing morlam from Deun MaPao and began performing in different villages. Sarawut received a Masters degree at the Faculty of Education, Chulalongkorn University and is also a guest lecturer at various Universities.
